Patti Butcher
Lead Golf Coach & LPGA National Golf Progessional of the Year
Committed to “teaching the whole game to the whole person,” Patti has delivered results for golfers of every age and ambition for over thirty years.
Patti Butcher, a 2010 National LPGA Golf Professional of the Year and two-time LPGA Midwest Teacher of the Year, is excited to bring her experience to the greater golf community of Canadian Lakes Country Club. This season, she will be offering weekend Short Game Schools, Women’s Player Experiences along with limited private instruction opportunities on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In addition to being a member of the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Division, she spent 25 years as a member of the PGA of America. Patti was mentored and trained by some of the most skilled and noteworthy professionals in our game including playing for LPGA Hall of Fame Coach and Teacher Annette Thompson at Penn State University. She spent time as an Associate Professional at the storied Oak Hill CC in Rochester, NY under the tutelage of Craig Harmon of the venerable Harmon family; brothers Butch, Dick and Billy and Dad Claude Harmon (1948 Masters champion).
Patti’s passion for teaching and coaching is unmatched, and her career has included many “firsts”. She was the first Director of Instruction for the Meadows at Grand Valley State, and their first women’s golf coach. As a NCAA golf committee member, she was the first in Michigan to host a NCAA Division II Golf Championship as well as having the first player ever qualify. As the first full time golf instructor in West Michigan, she was the first to start an Academy, and first to do exclusively individual custom fitting (using ball flight and single irons) for golf clubs. After leaving the Meadows she started her own instructional company, Patti Butcher Golf Enterprises, and was the first to have an indoor teaching and practice facility during the winter, using early launch monitors (1999). Throughout this time Patti was the teacher of record for eight individual MHSAA High School Champions, NCAA Division II Women’s Champion, and Captains of the Men’s Team at Wake Forest, Duke and Michigan State.
In 2004, Patti was hired to be the first female and fifth Director of Golf at Blythefield Country Club in its storied history. In 2008 she added the duties of General Manager and in 2014 secured the LPGA Meijer Classic for Simply Give at Blythefield. Since her retirement from BCC in 2015, she has been teaching during the summers at Scott Lake Golf and Practice Center and in her own private indoor studio in Grand Rapids during the winters.
While I use all kinds of very recent measuring technology from video to force plates and launch monitors and am certified in body mechanics and mental game profiling tools and strategies, my teaching philosophy is quite simple. Help the player in front of me do what their body can do adjusting what they already have as efficiently as possible to change to the desired ball flight.
Having a home in CL, I am looking forward to spending more time here and meeting many of you. You may find out more about the golf schools at my website www.pattibutchergolf.com.
